TCP #6: Things That Everyone Loves Except You
In the past, I've blogged several times about the things I love and hate.  Since this is my getting-to-know-you blogging project, you'll get a broader extent of me as an individual. The previous entries of TCP were about precious things. Let's move on to something unpleasant. I'll share to you the things I cannot stand while everyone's going gaga over them. BTW, details will be explained further after the list below.
  • Teleseryes with recycled storylines and unoriginal plots (Remakes, remakes...)
  • "Teach me how to dougie" (Somebody explain this)
  • Local showbiz (Full of wasted talent and plastic charisma)
  • Plastic surgery to look like a celebrity (Barbie wannabes, anyone?)
  • Multiply's popularity (hurrah for Tumblr)
  • Jejemons (so 2010)
  • Fads that will quickly fade out
  • Follower-beggers (I DON'T FOLLOW BACK, OKAY?)
  • Heavily edited Facebook photos (Who doesn't?)
  • People who beg for likes and comments on Facebook (SERIOUSLY!)
  • People overhyped because of their average looks (I know a lot of people who fall in this category, celebrity or ordinary person)
Teleseryes, were great in the early 2000s. That was back when soap operas were acceptable. However, we're now in the new decade and it's a different generation. GMA making a remake of Captain Barbell for the millionth time while ABS-CBN resurrects a classic soap opera with a modern touch. Here's your typical Pinoy teleserye: poor girl gets beaten up by a flawless rich girl, the damsel in distress heroine falls in love with a handsome rich man, the rich girl dies in the end by means of a car accident or a fall from the Empire State Building and there we see a happy ending. Getting overzealous? Here's another one: a poor girl loses her diary, finds it, then loses it, finds it again, then some snatcher took it away...the infinity supports the claim of a 30-year old story. If you want to get bored to death, then better watch an afternoon soap running since the 1960's with an endless plot and some of the characters deceased in time of the show's airing. Look up Days of Our Lives on Google and you'll see what I mean. It garnered skyrocketing ratings at the prime of the show in the 1970's but went downhill when the story shifted to eye-boggling directions. Lesson of the story: a plot must be straight to the point, not too long with an unpredictable ending and dynamic characters. No expectations attached.

Moving on to local showbiz, no one stands out anymore may it be in looks or talent. All they put in the spotlight these days  are reality TV show winners, actors who can't act for real and famous people claiming they own the country. Sorry, but I've seen that performance of yours before. And you think you're famous just because you have 400,000 Facebook fans? Jeez, famous your face.

Plastic surgery to be a human Barbie / celebrity doppleganger? There are limelight-free men / women who are far better-looking. Look at the world surrounding you, darling.

"Pa-like ng DP ko, please" I just don't get the idea why a lot of Facebookers are obsessed with competing for the number of likes and comments on their profile pictures. To those people who send a dumbass message to each of their 1000 virtual buddies telling them to like their pixelated pictures...will 300 likes on your FB display photo make you more beautiful and popular than the average Facebook user? If no one likes your picture, is it an implementation that you're horse-ugly? The answer? For someone in this state of dilemma is yes. But for me, it's no big deal. Hit the button only if the photo you're viewing is like-worthy. Away from the profile picture beauty contest, isn't it frustrating to see a photogenic FB user looking plain in real-life? Their secret to a simply flawless snapshot when they don't look anything special in person: photo enhancement. Thank you Photoshop and Photoscape for your amazing wonders.

Lastly, I hate those people whose looks are overrated. Frankly speaking, I'm more into classic and exquisite beauties than the sexy persona we always see in men's magazines. Yes, these people are beautiful to others but looking at them they're just common-looking. There are a lot of women who are deemed as the most beautiful in the world when they have a million lookalikes across the globe. Read between the lines: a pretty girl with a lot of lookalikes in the campus is an example of an overrated looking person to me.

There you go, I'm done with venting the steam of boiling points.

TCP#5: Favorite TV shows

I discovered Skins back in the summer last year. I got myself addicted to the show from the very first episode where Tony Stonem is focused, his sister Effy has a non-speaking role, Cassie Ainsworth says "Oh wow, lovely" for the first time and the gang trashes an open party organized by a wealthy girl. After two series, the first generation takes a bow and we finally get to see Effy in a lead role plus a new ensemble cast to watch. Recently, Series 5 concluded with a new group of amateurs. See how the series evolved within four years of existence? That is one thing I love about Skins. It's the show like no other: amateur actors, ensemble cast every two seasons (series) and the storylines evolve from abortion to eating disorders.

I started watching Glee the same time I savored Skins. So far, the second season is better than the first because of many reasons. Number one, Rachel Berry (my least favorite character) isn't always in the spotlight anymore. Number two, Brittany Spears finally gets the chance to shine with her superb dancing and singing skills. Number three, Kurt Hummel and Blaine, enough said. Number four, Quinn Fabray (all-time favorite) morphs back to her old, queen bee self. And number five, there are more characters to love and the whole cast gets the spotlight now and not just one member of the group. Three cheers to Gleekiness!

Blair Waldorf is, was and will always be my favorite character. Serena van der Woodsen took the spotlight during the first season but I was glad to see Blair taking a big leap on the second. I witnessed the divine transformation of Jenny Humphrey from goody-two-shoes wannabe to the nightmarish girl from hell (still love her though). What I like about the series is the marvelous fashions, the surprise twists and the electrifying romances. Gossip Girl stands out from other upper-class dramas because none of the characters is flawless even the girl who has it all gets a not-so-ravishing treatment.

The Simpsons is not the cartoon for the narrow-minded. It may have crude humor in its plots but the family points out the reality of life. What's extraordinary about this show is that it lasted for 22 years with a star on the Walk of Fame, a hit movie and a boomtastic merchandise in its name. For me, nothing will ever replace its wholesomeness with a mix of wit. How I wish the Griffins can cross over with the Simpsons for a television special or a centric episode perhaps.

I'm a big wrestling fan but it'll take ten years for me to write about my passion for sports entertainment since 2004. Now that you've read about boob tube's finest, the hate grenade is about to explode on the shows I cannot stand and refuse to watch. All of these things will be covered on the next edition of TCP!

TCP #5: A scene from a TV show

Freddie: We’d be good together, don’t you think?
Effy: No.
Freddie: Why?
Effy: Because I’ll break your heart.
Freddie: Maybe I’ll break yours.
Effy: Nobody breaks my heart. And anyway, why would I want that?

TCP #4: A favorite real-life fact
Some stunningly attractive people look good in person but terrible in photographs. Some others look average but transform unbelievably on-camera. The truth: being photogenic does not mean she's beautiful.

I am not photogenic. I will never put down my digicam until I snap a Facebook profile-worthy picture. I look confident when I look at the mirror every morning before going to school but it all halts down when I do a five-second pose for the benefit of flash photography. I look skinny in my real-life reflections but chunky in photos. The world is unfair because it's divided into two: picture perfect people and not-so-photogenic ones. If you were from Mars and you are to choose your perennial side, I bet you're going to choose the bright side. No one wants to look like garbage in her graduation picture, right?

Moving on, what I stated above is not a fallacy. It's true that there are girls who look great in their Facebook photos but look average in real-life.  I guess it's with the advantage of photo enhancement. In the age of Photoshop, we can flicker away an annoying pimple and remove the baby fat in our bikini-clad torsos. The "Photoshopped photos" trend is growing in large numbers especially on Facebook these days. I've seen a lot of users who look flawless in their profile pictures and photo albums. But when I see them in person, I'm like "Um, okay?". Trust me, not everything that you see on social networking websites is parallel to real-life. I know some girls who look terrible in pictures but gorgeous in person. A number of my online networking friends aren't that pretty or stunning off-cam.

Lesson of the story: what you see is what you get is a myth. It's not always true.

***EDIT: Changed perennial's spelling. Screw you Google for making it correct when in reality it's not.

TCP #3: Favorite Movies

For me, these are the movies I recommend you to watch.

Is it weird that I didn't list Avatar and Transformers in here?

#2 A photo of you two years ago
Two years ago it's fine for me to look like a retard on camera. But not anymore :P

Looking back at those pictures make me laugh because I made trying hard poses in front of my webcam. Man, these snaps don't look pretty after all.

****EDIT: Four years ago was my grade school graduation. HS graduation in eight days. :)

TCP #1: Random Thoughts

1. Random thoughts running in your mind right now

Every Twitter user's nightmare is to get chirping crickets from someone you've mentioned in your tweets. If it happens once, then there's always better luck next time. But if it happens more than five times (like in Lindsay Lohan's case), then a piece of advice: deactivate your Twitter account already because no one wants to follow you back. I cannot believe that this kind of Twitter user exists. That user mentions a person she's following but doesn't get a reply from that user. Ouch. It is the worst feeling in the world not to get a mention from someone who is actually not following you back.

Hey Lindsay, it seems like they're not following you back. If you're getting crickets everytime you mention them, better quit Twitter instead.

Second, I'll write about a quaint story of a Chinese girl who wanted to have plastic surgery to look like Jessica Alba - for her ex-boyfriend.

The girl's ex-boyfriend was an obsessed Alba fan. His adoration for the Hollywood actress went over the top he forced his girlfriend to wear a blonde wig at all times and wear makeup while sleeping. BS, right? Then after their break-up, the Chinese girl went to a cosmetic surgeon and asked for a plastic surgery in the hopes of winning her former flame back. Then Jessica, looking concerned, addressed the girl on national television not to continue with the surgery. Fortunately, Miss Alba-wannabe called it off and moved on.

To those of you who are reading this, will you ever have plastic surgery to look like a celebrity?

Final exams will be from Monday to Wednesday and I'll be back online full-time on Wednesday afternoon!

Three Years of Un-Dreckitude Blogging
On March 15, 2011, The Candydoll Files will be celebrating its THIRD birthday. Yay!!! I cannot believe I currently own a very active blog serving more than 4000 viewers (according to the site counter), 284 posts at archive and more than 20 affliates. I'm thinking of this special blog thing called The Candydoll Project.

Coincidentally, March will be the month I'll graduate from STC QC. To kick things off, I'll browse all of my posts from the very first one and select those that made a big impact in my life. For example, my posts from freshman year, sophomore year, blah blah and the like. Then I'm planning to make a 10-post meme to commemorate The Candydoll Files and its three years of existence. You'll be able to know more about me, so watch out for it.

I'll be thinking of many other creative ways to make The Candydoll Project a memorable one for my blog. Just keep the views counting and you might see a new update about it now and then.
